Turnt Up on Spirit. HexavianSundaySeries

#ChurchForTheStreet

“I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”- Mahatma Ghandi

Christianity shouldn’t take you out of the world, it should make you live triumphantly in it.

Christianity shouldn’t be boring; it should be everything alive without losing its depth.

I have a colleague in Hexavia who would say, “Eizu, many a time before I left my former church, Deeper Life Bible Church, I would explain to my ‘Perfect’ Sunday school teacher that ma’am; I am not perfect. I go against some church rules, I drink water so I don’t dehydrate when I fast, and I watch TV. I have light drinks at rare moments. I play video games; I sometimes hug ladies (lol).

I’ve always found that train of thought funny but real.

From the way I understand Christianity, The world doesn’t need more “perfect Christians.” It needs honest Christians who in their imperfections reveal a perfect God & perfect grace.

We don’t need to see more people in church; we need to see more church in people. We need to see God in a more open context; it will help more people and will help us see him more in everything. That way He can solve anything with you. You need to be that open, to let the spirit in.

We are too attached, to our default uptight views of God and the Holy Spirit. I know a pretty cool lady in Port Harcourt. Her name is Inem, she’s a young highly successful lawyer who owns a fashion brand, a store, works two dream jobs  she enjoys and she’s alumni of our Masterclass and a member of our Hexavian Business Club (HBC). I describe her profile not to brag but so you’d get an idea of what God’s grace actually looks like, plus she has her soul intact. I tell my circle that she’s the coolest lady I probably know and the deepest mind and most in-depth Christian too.  Evidence terminates arguments. Let your profile be the evangelism. I’m always amazed on how she playfully connects to the heavens while down to earth. She’s the kind of pretty girl who can walk into a bar and walk out with two guys and their girlfriends, getting them to drop their drinks and head with her straight to church.

We need to paint better graphical pictures of Christianity people can relate with and not “stories that touch”, like  Jonah being swallowed by a fish and spitting him out in days (Jonah 1 Vs 17) . In a conversation, she once asked me, “What is the picture of the God you believe in, do you think if he showed up to you, he will be wearing those old sandals and robes from Jerusalem like those in My Book of Bible Stories. Well, maybe he’d probably show up in shots and sneakers to connect with you”. He’s your friend and side walk. He is the cool type that walks through the valley of the shadows of death with you.  See him as that. Let him dwell till everyone can find Him attractive because being born again is okay and cool, and while you are at it, they still can clearly see His grace, excellence and him in you. In actual fact, you are the only God they might ever see. Be a better ambassador.

I’m learning the art of conversations under my breath with God. Talk to him about anything, even if the prayers sounds dumb and you’d be shocked at the smart answers you will draw from it. I remember driving with my friend and talking to her about how to connect inspiration, everyday ideas, the spirit and with meditation. I remember saying how I want to be that kind of person that just effortlessly dwells in His presence even when I play and in my worst behaviour. And she said, “yeah Kenneth Hagin, once said that he at times has coffee and tea with the Holy Spirit”. I find that funny, but it’s a realm worth exploring…hnmmm.. At that point, anything can be fixed.

One time too many we try to fix our problems before we bring them to God. Hence we complicate matters and make redemption harder on us. Sometimes we miss the growth process.

My #ChurchForTheStreet message today is simple. We need to keep it real and 100 with God.

Nigeria and the rest of the world don’t need more “perfect Christians”.  It needs honest Christians who in their imperfection help reveal a perfect God & perfect grace.

#ChurchForTheStreet is a Hexavian Sunday series..

Well said Eizu. It is the timeless secret of developing a personal relationship with God. Our lives must be in sync with what we profess.

Very nice piece, people should get to read this. Some have misunderstood and misinterpreted ‘Christianity’.
